Born and raised in Chicago, Jay began guitar lessons at the age of 7. Learning basic cord structure and rhythm, one of his first songs was Neil Young's "Heart of Gold". While attending school, he was introduced to music theory and took six years of choir starting at the age of 12. "The most enjoyable time of the school day was choir class." His musical influences at that time were The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rush and Yes. It was also around this time that he obtained a six-string electric and bass guitar. He started picking out the bass and guitar parts wore through a few albums doing so. Jay put together two bands in high school playing covers of the era's popular music, that which is known today as classic rock. |

In 1980 Jay joined the Navy, got married and had a child. During the 80's he lived in Newport, Rhode Island and Great Lakes, Illinois. In each town he sought local musicians and put several bands together, gigging on weekends. The musical styles included southern rock, classic rock, and new wave. |
In the 90's he lived in Everett, Seattle, Washington and Alameda, California. Musically alone in 90's, he decided to study rock guitar licks. This would give him the confidence to take on the project to come. |
In 1997 Jay retired from the Navy and met classically trained pianist Sally Freels. Together they started the Genesis Project. |
"There have literally been over a dozen different musicians in Grand Parade since the beginning. Each musician has made significant contributions to push the band forward and without their contributions the band would not be where we are today. |

Thanks to Genesis for the wonderful music, their tremendous tribute band support, and most of all to the audience who appreciates and supports this timeless music." - Jay |
